Domino’s controversial new vegan pizza

It’s a topping that has long-divided pizza lovers, but if you’re a vegan who happens to appreciate cooked pineapple, then you’ll be pretty happy with Domino’s new ‘Vegan Summer BBQ Pizza’.

A summer-inspired pizza topped with plenty of tangy pineapple chunks, vegan mozzarella, spinach, peppers and tomatoes — with either a BBQ sauce base and or a tomato capsicum one — is officially the kind of pizza you will either love or loath.

The creation comes after requests for more vegan options with the Aussie pizza maker revealing it was time to expand their vegan offering.

“We’ve had great support and engagement from the vegan community on our Vegan Cheese Enthusiasts Facebook group and we’ve received lots of requests for new vegan options, in addition to our three dedicated vegan pizzas and Vegan Cheesy Garlic Bread,” Domino’s CEO for Australia and New Zealand, Nick Knight, said.

Last year saw Domino’s attract more Vegan customers than ever before, also part of the reason to give customers more of what they want.

The new vegan pizza, which launched today, follows the launch of the ‘Vegan Cheesy Garlic Bread’ late last year. To help kick off summer, they also came out with a new garlic bread pizza crust in November last year.

“It’s the best combination of buttery garlic bread and pizza,” the pizza giant said in a statement at the time.

Outside of pizza, garlic bread is the most ordered menu item.

Apart from the new vegan pizza, today marks the launch of its self-titled “most indulgent pizza crust yet”, the 3-Cheese-Stacker, now available in stores across Australia.
