Stomach bloating – the dinner cooking tip to avoid trapped wind pain

Stomach bloating affects most people at some point in their lifetime, according to the NHS.

The condition can make the stomach feel swollen, stretched and uncomfortable.

It’s caused by eating certain foods that cause excess gas, or by eating too much in one go.

But you could prevent trapped wind pain by soaking your legumes and beans before cooking them.

Leaving your legumes overnight in water could help you to avoid feeling bloated the next day, according to Nestle.

Soaking the foods before cooking helps to get rid of some FODMAPs before you eat them.

FODMAPs are compounds that aren’t properly absorbed in some people, and may lead to feeling bloated.

“Many women suffer from bloating and it can be quite frustrating especially if you have an occasion that requires you to dress up,” it said.

“Bloating isn’t caused by just eating certain foods; stress can also cause indigestion and bloating.

“Gas, bloating and flatulence are side effects of our natural digestive processes.

“If a certain food causes you discomfort, try to avoid it.

“Soaking beans or legumes overnight and rinsing thoroughly before cooking may also help avoid bloating after eating them.”

You could also be feeling bloated if you’ve recently eaten a lot of fibre-rich foods, it added.

Fibre is crucial for a healthy digestive system, so it’s recommended to slowly increase the amount of fibre in your diet.

Eating a lot in one go, especially if you aren’t used to it, could lead to feeling bloated.

Stomach bloating may also be caused by constipation, irritable bowel syndrome, trapped gas, and swallowing air.

Talking while eating or chewing gum could lead to swallowing air, which in turn, leads to bloating.

People are more likely to feel bloated after a big weekend – especially around the festive season.

Speak to a doctor if your bloating symptoms don’t go away, said the NHS.

It could be caused by something more serious, including ovarian cancer, it warned.
