I am somebody who loves to drink green tea every day so I was very intrigued when I came across Yogi Green Tea Kombucha. I don’t normally drink flavoured green tea but this one, I had to try it as it sounded so interesting. With kombucha added to it, I thought it will be even more healthy! So if you want to try something different, here is my detailed review of this green tea from Yogi so you can decide for yourself whether you want to give it a try.

Ingredients

The ingredients used in this tea blend are all organic which means no pesticides and harmful toxins.

Here is a complete list of ingredients:

  • Organic green tea leaf
  • Organic lemongrass
  • Organic spearmint leaf
  • Organic dried kombucha (from fermented black tea)
  • Organic passion fruit flavour
  • Organic plum flavour

What I really like about Yogi Tea is that it doesn’t contain any artificial ingredients. Everything on the list is 100% natural.

The special ingredient in this tea blend is of course kombucha which is fermented tea. Normally, this is drunk on its own and has a very distinctive taste.

Just like green tea, kombucha also contains antioxidants and can help to decrease cholesterol.

It’s not clear what percentage of kombucha this tea blend contains and Yogi’s customer service did not want to reveal the percentage of each of the ingredients, saying that “this is proprietary information”. However, they stated that “ingredients are listed in descending order of predominance”.

Aroma

When the tea is steeping, the aroma is lovely – it’s really fruity (surprisingly) which I didn’t expect. This must be coming from added natural flavouring – passion fruit and plum flavours which are additional ingredients and not some of the main ingredients.

I can also smell a bit of mint in the background which is one of the main ingredients (spearmint leaf). What about the taste? Will that impress?

Taste

At first sip, the first thing I taste is not fruits, it’s definitely mint coming through. So while the tea smells really fruity, the taste is different and mint takes over and fruity flavours are in the background.

I drink my tea without any sugar or sweeteners. And this tea definitely doesn’t need anything added to it.

The overall taste is lovely, slightly minty, barely fruity and definitely not bitter although I can feel some astringency afterwards.

Yogi Kombucha Green Tea doesn’t taste anything like green or black tea, it’s more like herbal tea, to be honest.

The alcohol from the kombucha infusion dissipates in the spray dry pasteurization process. However, Yogi do not test for residual alcohol in their teas and although they are very unlikely to contain any alcohol, some residue may be left in them.

The final verdict

All in all, Yogi Green Tea Kombucha is a lovely tea with some health benefits and wonderful flavour. If you love herbal teas you will certainly love this one but if you want to enjoy the benefits of kombucha, it’s better you drink it in its raw form to gain the benefits from its probiotics.
